In 2002, the Municipal Office for Cordoba 2016 as Cultural Capital was set up. Since then, amongst other duties, it has organized meetings and conferences and has designed projects, with special attention to children and young people through the city’s educational and social programmes, such as Cordoba as an Educating City, Summer Youth Programmes and Summer Schools, in which there have been over 6,200 participants. It has also coordinated its programme of messages of support. The office has also been entrusted with managing the development of both the Cultural Capital White Paper, an instrument that has grown into a roadmap for the project, as well as the study on the European dimension of Cordoba (Cordoba, Europe) and organizing a series of international seminars, conferences and debates including one dedicated to Cultural Capitals held in autumn 2009.
