The Economy

The productive economy of the province of Cordoba is based mainly on service industries. Trade, business services, transport and catering industries are the pillars of the Cordoban economy.

The cultural wealth of Cordoba and its province is well-known, the result of a past when the Romans, Arabs, Jews and Christians ruled these lands. This rich heritage, with the stunning Mosque as its shining example and the no less important remains of the palace-city of Medina Azahara, has given rise to a varied, high-quality leisure and tourism industry which receives millions of visitors each year and generates exciting business opportunities.

Coming a close second in importance in the production system are agriculture, cattle rearing and the food processing industry. In addition, the manufacturing and extractive industries play a major part in the economy of the province, followed by the construction industry.

The University of Cordoba occupies the top positions in the quality surveys made of the studies at Spanish universities. In particular, the College of Agricultural Engineering, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and ETEA Business School (a University Institution run by the Society of Jesus) enjoy great prestige on a national level.

Cordoba, therefore, has the strategic advantage of having exceptionally well-trained human resources in areas such as agro-food businesses, veterinary science or business administration. It is a veritable hotbed of professionals, highly trained and prepared for the future.
